Deutsch: Der Stadt Geilenkirchen ist mit Urkunde des Regierungspräsidenten vom 29.11.1972 das Recht zur Führung eines Wappens verliehen worden. „Geteilt; oben in Blau ein halber, doppelschweifiger rotbezungter und -bewehrter goldener (gelber) Löwe; unten in Gold (Gelb) ein blauer Papagei mit rotem Schnabel und gleichfarbigen Beinen, der auf einem schwarzen Ast steht.“ Um 1500 war Geilenkirchen Gerichtsort und hatte ein eigenes Siegel. Das heutige Wappen der Stadt wurde 1556 vom Herzog von Jülich verliehen. Die Herkunft des Vogels ist vermutlich ein Bestandteil, das dem Wappen des 'Wilhelm von Jülich' (1556) entnommen wurde. Seinen Ursprung hatte der Vogel wohl als Kennzeichen der Teilnahme an den Kreuzzügen. Der Zweig hat keinen historischen Ursprung und wurde im 19. Jahrhundert hinzugefügt.
English: „Per fess azure an armed gules double-tailed lion rampant Or issuant and Or an armed gules parrot azure on a branch sable.“ The arms are derived from the oldest seal of the city, which dates from 1556 and were granted by Duke Wilhelm V of Jülich. The lion in the upper part is the lion of Heinsberg in the colours of Jülich. The double-tailed indicate the origin as the lion of Heinsberg. The origin of the bird in the lower part is probably a sign of partizipating the crusades. The branch has no historical background; it was added in the 19th century.
