English: Photograph showing folio 9 recto of the British Library's 18th-century manuscript copy in Kurmanji Kurdish (Shelf mark: Or 5932, http://searcharchives.bl.uk/IAMS_VU2:IAMS032-003468688, ff. 9r–14r) of Baḥr al-Hizj al-Makfūf al-Maḥdhūf (the Nûbihara Biçûkan) the earliest Kurdish–Arabic dictionary in verse, written by Ahmad Khani (Ehmed Xani) in 1683. The text was the second text (after the scripture) introduced to Kurdish madrasa students learning Arabic. The dictionary gives Kurdish translations for a thousand Arabic words introduced together in around 220 verse "couplets" (beyts or beits). This manuscript, also containing the same author's Eqîdeya Îmanê (14v–16r), was bought from one I. E. Geljon on 30 March 1901. [The British Library's catalogue has a question mark after this name]
